If you like to climb, you will find a path just beyond the craters near a microwave station.
LOS TORILES
This site was also known as Old Ixtlan and had a long sequence of pre-Hispanic settlement dating back to 300 B.C. where the cultural complex known as the pit- tomb tradition flourished until 600 A.D. The site belonged to Nahuatl groups who were familiar with urban planning and applied these principles to their structures, incorporating the use of columns, porticos, open spaces and plazas, inside patios and courtyards, avenues, drainage and stairways. They erected worship areas to the Sun and the Moon, a temple to Quetzalcoatl and the Palace of Tlaloc. This area flourished until the arrival of the Spaniards and was the site of battles resisting the Conquest. This is the most important cultural and historical legacy in Nayarit and the only archaeological site in the Northwest part of Mexico.
